I will release excerpts of Song of the Pines until its release on August 1st so interested readers can get a preview. Here is todays:
Through biting cold in parka’s hold,
I trekked the trail to mountain’s crest,
Where snow and hail in torrents rolled,
Yet still I climbed with fervent zest.
I reached the peak, my heart stood still,
Above the world, a boundless view,
Where clouds in waves o’er wooded hill,
Draped snow in mist of silver hue.
The fading light, a soul’s delight,
Cast pinks and blues in tender glow,
As snowflakes danced in softest flight,
A magic scene to ease my woe.
The sun’s last ray gave way to night,
The mountain held me in its spell,
A star burned bright with radiant light,
Through fog and snow, where dreams did dwell.
I left that peak of ancient lore,
My heart with wonder’s praise ablaze,
And saw the star through night’s dark core,
Still shine as it had done for days.
